11-12 Jun 2025 Paris (France)

Objectives

The European Solar Telescope (EST, https://est-east.eu/) is a project to buildt the next generation large-aperture eruopean solar telescope. With a 4.2-metre primary mirror, it will be optimised for studies of the magnetic coupling of the solar atmosphere. This will require diagnostics of the thermal, dynamic and magnetic properties of the plasma over many scale heights, by using multi-wavelength imaging, spectroscopy and spectropolarimetry. EST will specialise in high spatial and temporal resolution, using several instruments simultaneously to efficiently produce 2D spectral information. EST will be located in the Canary Islands, a first-class site for astronomical observations. This project, which is part of the roadmap of the European Strategic Forum for Research Infrastructure (ESFRI), is currently in a crucial phase of consolidation.

The EST France 2025 workshop, supported by the INSU/CNRS Solar-Terrestrial Thematic Action (ATST ; https://atst.osups.universite-paris-saclay.fr/), aims to bring together EST’s European leadership with French scientific and industrial communities interested in the project’s implementation. The workshop will present the project, its significance, and its potential uses for the French community, as well as facilitate discussions on France’s strategic involvement in the EST scientific consortium.
